Mining

Mining equipment cleaning in the Solomon Islands

Gold mining on Guadalcanal runs haul trucks, dozers and excavators. Their components come off carrying baked carbon, grease and mineral mud. Hot alkaline chemistry and ultrasonics take them back to bare metal with no abrasive and no change in size.

Engines

Cylinder heads, blocks, liners, valves, pistons and rods. See piston ring grooves.

Cooling

Radiators, oil coolers and intercoolers, cleaned inside the core where rodding cannot reach, in CoreKleen HX.

Drivetrain and hydraulics

Final drives, transmission parts, valve blocks and cylinders.

The reference job is a Cat 3516B overhaul, the V16 in the Cat 793D haul truck. Its heads came back to bare cast iron in 60 minutes. Valves, springs and hardware went through the same bath in the same basket. More on mining.

Power generation

Diesel power station maintenance

Most of the country's grid power comes from diesel generator sets. Their overhauls bring the same parts to the bench every time, and they clean well in an ultrasonic tank.

Fuel system

Injectors, nozzles and fuel pump parts, with carbon and lacquer out of the fine passages. Bench work runs in an MSX 30.

Engine overhaul

Heads, liners, pistons and valves from the generator engines, cleaned to bare metal before measurement.

Cooling and air

Charge-air coolers, oil coolers and radiators, cleaned through the core.

Filters

Reusable strainers and filter elements. See the power station filters case study.

Spark plugs

On gas engines, plugs cleaned for longer service life. See CHP spark plugs.

Recipes and logs

Machines with a controller store a recipe for each part and log every cycle for the maintenance record.

Marine and fishing

Marine ultrasonic cleaning in the Solomon Islands

The tuna fleet, inter-island ships and workboats keep marine engineering shops busy in Honiara and Noro. They clean two kinds of soil. Salt, scale and growth come from the seawater side. Carbon and sludge come from the fuel and oil side.

Engine

Injectors, fuel pumps and turbochargers, in Desludge or 815 QR-NF.

Coolers

Charge-air coolers, plate and shell exchangers, box coolers. Descale takes the scale.

Seawater systems

Pumps, valves and strainers in bronze, copper-nickel and stainless steel.

Heat exchanger tube ends bridged with scale and oil sludge
As received
The same tube ends open after the immersion cycle
After cycle

Exchanger tube ends. Scale and oil sludge bridged the tubes. Open again after the cycle, with no rodding.

Two shell-and-tube heat exchanger bundles on a workshop floor

Exchanger bundles. Tubesheet, tubes and shell in one immersion. Coolers usually need an alkaline bath, then an inhibited descale. See the cooler and exchanger case study and the marine page.

Chemistry

Pick the chemistry by the soil and the metal

Settings below are from each product's technical data sheet. Chemistry is matched to your parts and quoted with the machine. Rinse after every cycle. The full list is on chemicals.

Machines

Machines for Solomon Islands workshops, sized to the biggest part

MSX machines for injectors, fuel and hydraulic parts. EvoSonic tanks for heads, blocks, final drives and coolers. UltraTecno ACM tanks with a platform lift for the heaviest parts.

The EvoSonic range runs from the EVS 180 through the EVS 1200 and EVS 1500-PL to the EVS 7000-PL. Compare them on the EvoSonic page or on industrial ultrasonic tanks. Exchanger bundles and large fabrications go in custom tanks to 46,000 L.

Parts washers

Parts washers for Solomon Islands workshops

An ultrasonic parts washer cleans inside drillings, galleries and cores that a solvent tank and brush do not reach. Pick it by the parts and the power on site.

Benchtop parts washer

The MSX 15 and MSX 30 for injectors, fuel and hydraulic parts and pump parts. 240 V from a standard 10 A socket.

Floor parts washer for oily work

The MSX 140 and MSX 240 carry a weir, oil capture and filtration for engine and mine workshop soils. 415 V three phase.

Sealed-chamber parts washer

The UltraWash washes, rinses and dries behind one door in about twenty minutes, for repeat batches of the same parts.

How an ultrasonic machine compares with a solvent washer is on the ultrasonic parts cleaner page.

FAQ

Ultrasonic cleaning Solomon Islands questions

Where can I buy an industrial ultrasonic cleaner in the Solomon Islands?
Direct from Misonics in Melbourne. We specify, test and ship MSX, EvoSonic, UltraTecno and UltraWash machines to the Solomon Islands, with the chemistry. Send an enquiry with your parts.
Will the machines run on Solomon Islands power?
The Solomon Islands runs 230 V, 50 Hz with the same Type I plug as Australia. Benchtop and smaller floor machines run single phase. The MSX 140, MSX 240, EvoSonic and UltraTecno tanks need three phase, checked against the site supply at quotation.
Which machine suits a power station workshop?
Injectors and fuel pump parts run in an MSX 30. Heads, liners and charge-air coolers from the generator engines go in an MSX 240 or an EvoSonic tank, sized to the biggest part.
Can a fishing fleet workshop use the same machine?
Yes. Injectors, turbochargers, coolers and seawater pump parts all clean in the same tank. Scale and salt come off in Descale, and carbon and sludge in Desludge.
How does mining equipment cleaning work without sending parts out?
The tank goes in your workshop. Heads, valves and hardware strip, clean and rebuild on site in one basket and one recorded cycle. The Cat 3516B overhaul shows the method in MetalTek 100.
