Tank litres, useful litres and basket size

Model names and headline litres describe the tank. They do not tell you whether your part fits. Each machine has three published figures, and they answer different questions.

Tank volume is the whole tank, including the pockets that carry the resonators, heaters and platform. Useful volume is the working volume your parts sit in. Basket size and working depth are the space the part actually has, and they decide fit.

Read across the rows. The PS 620 has the larger tank, 20.7 L against 15 L, but the MSX 15 holds 30 mm more liquid over its basket, so a taller part fits the smaller-litre machine. The MSX 30 and MSX 50 baskets are within 10 mm of each other in length, yet the MSX 50 has more than twice the working depth. A part has to sit in the basket, fully under the liquid, with clearance. 3–10 L: PowerSonic benchtop

Three heated benchtop machines with 240–250 mm baskets and 80–100 mm of working depth. All run a single 40 kHz band and heat to 80 °C.

The step from occasional cleaning to daily bench duty. The MSX machines add load sensing and stepless 10–100% power; the MSX 30 adds a second frequency, 25 kHz for heavy soils and 45 kHz for finishing.

Four tanks sized to the longest heat exchanger bundle you clean: 3, 6, 9 and 12 metres. Crane loaded from above, 415 V three-phase, with heating and filtration as priced options.

Sizing questions

Is a 30 L ultrasonic cleaner big enough for a cylinder head?

It depends on the head, not the litres. The MSX 30 basket is 490 × 235 mm with 140 mm of working depth, and the head has to sit inside that, fully under the liquid, with clearance. If it is longer, wider or taller, it needs a bigger machine. The MSX 50, with a 500 × 300 mm basket and 300 mm of working depth, is the smallest machine in the range specified for cylinder heads.

What is the largest ultrasonic cleaner Misonics builds?

The largest standard machine is the UltraMax HX 12: a tank of about 45,540 litres for heat exchanger bundles up to 12 metres long, with 202.8 kW of ultrasonic power at 28 kHz. Beyond the four standard UltraMax sizes, tanks are drawn around the part as custom builds.

Does a bigger tank clean better?

No. The result comes from frequency, chemistry and its dilution ratio, temperature, cycle time and how the power is distributed through the bath, not from volume. A bigger tank spreads its power through more liquid: the MSX 50 carries 30 W/L, the MSX 240 19 W/L. Oversizing costs once on the machine and again every day on chemistry and power, so choose the smallest tank your part fits in, with clearance.

How much solution does a 30 L tank actually hold?

The MSX 30 tank is 30 litres. Its useful volume, the space your parts sit in, is 16.2 litres: a 490 × 235 mm basket area with 140 mm of working depth. Tank volume is the whole tank, including the pockets that carry the resonators, heaters and platform, so size against the useful volume and the basket.

Can I get a custom size?

Yes. Above the benchtop range, tanks can be drawn around the part. The custom EVS configurator takes your part dimensions and weight, and UltraMax HX tanks can be sized to any bundle length.
